About Janet Engel…
Janet is a licensed Occupational Therapist (OT) who has been passionately serving clients for over a decade.
In 2020, she achieved certification as a Certified Aging in Place Specialist (CAPS) through the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB).
In addition to her CAPS credential, Janet also holds an Executive Certificate in Home Modification (ECHM) from the prestigious University of California Leonard School of Gerontology.
Beyond her clinical work, Janet serves as an approved instructor for the NAHB, where she has the opportunity to share her expertise with others in the field.
She teaches the CAPS Certification Program and Universal Design Essentials, guiding future professionals in developing the skills and knowledge necessary to facilitate home modifications and implement universal design principles.
Janet has also collaborated with Sherwin Williams in the creation of a Custom Color Card featuring colors schemes that are friendly for the aging eye as well as lead continuing education webinars for Sherwin Williams and the National Kitchen and Bath Association (NKBA).
In addition, she has served on panels related to Aging In Place and Senior Living Design at High Point Market, the largest home furnishings trade show in the world.
Outside the classroom, Janet continues her advocacy for universal design and age-friendly living environments through her engaging podcast “Home Design for Life.”
This platform allows her to reach an international audience, raising awareness about the crucial importance of accessible and functional home design as well as the design of public spaces for aging populations.
Janet’s podcast features expert insights from professionals across the field, discussions on recent developments and product lines, and practical advice for those seeking to create or modify spaces that are accessible, safe, and comfortable for all, regardless of age or ability.
About Esther Kane…
Esther received a Bachelor of Science degree in Occupational Therapy from Florida International University in Miami, Florida.
The OT training that she received in working with adults gave her extensive experience in home safety assessments and a great knowledge base in the type of home modifications needed to help older adults to be safe in their home environments.
Esther has written several CEU (Continuing Education) courses for various clinical fields.
She has written, published, and sold 12 CEU courses for Occupational Therapists.
In the year 2000, Esther retired from her career as an occupational therapist and pursued education and training in website design and SEO (search engine optimization).
Esther has owned and operated several businesses in the field of online marketing such as Eckweb Designs, Inc., an internet firm focused on online marketing services for small businesses.
Esther has successfully worked with hundreds of small business owners, helping them grow their business and brand.
She is also the successful co-founder of seniorsafetyadvice.com, an all inclusive website specializing in content creation for older adults and their caregivers on aging, caregiving, and health.
In 2019 she became certified as a Senior Home Safety Specialist through the Age Safe America organization. Esther is also certified as a CARES® Dementia Specialist (C.D.S.).
